Erie ClaySpace Cocktails and Clay
December 8, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Try your hand at the potter’s wheel! A pottery workshop in Erie, PA.
This ceramics class is the perfect way to introduce yourself to throwing on the wheel without having to commit to a multi-week class. You will spend two hours learning beginner’s throwing techniques from local ceramic artist Brianna Shimer and will create 2-3 pieces all your own. Bring your own snacks and drinks, get a little muddy, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Bring a friend, significant other, or just treat yourself! All trimming, glazing, and firings will be completed by the instructor and you can pick up your pieces approximately 2-3 weeks after the workshop.
For more information on this event and a complete list of Frequently Asked Questions, visit www.erieclayspace.com. All further questions and special accommodation requests should be directed to the instructor, Brianna Shimer, at Brianna.email@example.com.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Attendees must be at least 14 years of age or older to attend, and attendees under 21 are not permitted to bring/consume alcohol.
What’s the refund policy?
Refunds can be issued if proper notice is given at least 24 hours prior to the event.
What should I bring?
You should come with any food or beverages you’d like to enjoy during your workshop, as well as any utensils, glasses, plates, etc. that your treats require. ClaySpace does not provide any of these items and is not responsible for clean up.
What should I wear?
Don’t wear any loose clothing, scarves, or long jewelry. Long hair should be tied back and no rings or bracelets should be worn, as they can fall off or get ruined. All clay washes out of clothing, but wear clothing you care about at your own risk. Nails should be trimmed short to avoid accidentally ruining freshly made work.
What should I expect/what will I learn?
If this is your first time trying the pottery wheel, come with an open mind! You will learn the basic steps to throw several pieces on the wheel. If this is not your first time, you will get a refresher on proper throwing technique and will brush up your skills in a relaxed atmosphere. The instructor will demo several pieces, walk you through each step at a beginner’s pace, and answer any questions you have as you create 2-3 pieces of unique wheel-thrown pottery. As with many multi-step art forms, creating, finishing and firing pottery does not have a 100% success rate. There is always a chance something could go wrong with one of your pieces in any step of the process. The instructor will always do everything to ensure that your pieces are handled and finished with care.
How much time will I have on the wheel?
Over the course of the workshop, students will be able to try the wheel many times. Students should be able to finish the workshop with at least 2-3 pieces. ClaySpace has 8 pottery wheels in the studio—one for the instructor and seven for students to use. A half an hour is reserved at the end of each workshop for cleanup.
When will I get my creations?
During your workshop, you will choose the glaze color for each of your pieces, and the instructor will trim, fire, and glaze each piece for you after the workshop. The finishing process takes several days to complete, and students can pick up their work about 2-3 weeks after the workshop at a time agreed upon by the group and instructor.
What kinds of other workshops do you have?
Erie ClaySpace offers many different types of classes throughout the year. We have previously run 4, 6, and 8 week wheel and hand building classes, one day workshops, children’s classes, girl scout workshops, Cocktails and Clay evening workshops, private wheel and hand building workshops, birthday parties, fundraisers, and beginner and intermediate level classes.
